The students and the staff of the University of Amsterdam occupied an administrative building of the university – Maagdenhuis in Spuiplein- in February 26 2015. This was a reaction to the decisions of the university administration to sell the university’s properties to the real estate developers. Since then Maagdenhuis hosts a line of fruitful debates, lectures, talks about the future of the University of Amsterdam and more broadly the future of the Dutch universities. Here is an excellent talk by the Dutch financial geographer Ewald Engelen on the financialization of higher education and transformation of the University of Amsterdam. For those who missed it.
